Costa Rica Service Project Trip 2005

In August 2005, Dr. Jiveh and his wife, Jhaleh, took an extremely memorable trip for a service project to an indigenous region of Costa Rica. There, they stayed with Parviz and Ann Ighani and the Guami Indians in a reservation called Progreso, where they served and met the wonderful locals. The Ighanis are members of Bahá'í Faith which have started the only high school program in the area and each year invite several people around the world, mostly youth, to assist in teaching and other functions for social and economic development of Guamis.

In addition to some dental and nursing work, Dr Jiveh assisted in teaching high school students in the village and Jhaleh helped in providing food and other needs for the families. The kindness, gentle manor, great sense of humor, and love of the local Guami Indians will never be forgotten.

The Haven

On December 2005, Dr. Jiveh along with Todd Edge and with assistance of The Wellington Rotary Club and Kenneth R. Carlson Architects, were able to raise over $3500 in gifts and supplies for The Haven for the Holiday season.

The Haven is an alternative home for young men, ages 11 to 18, who have been placed in the facility's protective care. Each year, The Haven provides its comprehensive program to an average of 75-80 boys with the average length of stay at more than three years-with many boys staying until age 18.

Little Smiles

Dr. Jiveh is a major supporter and sponsor of this amazing group. Little Smiles is a charitable organization that strives to fulfill the needs for toys, games, videos, computers, outings, special events, limousine transportation, concert and sporting event tickets, specialty dinners and celebrity meet and greets for children in local hospitals, hospices and shelters.

During their last visit with the kids, Dr. Jiveh and his staff make a "junk food run" at Saint Mary's Hospital for the organization where along with Chip Donohue, they provided the kids with all of their favorite candies, ice cream and other favorite junk food. Of course, tooth brushes and tooth pastes were also distributed!
