"I feel like I won the lottery" exclaimed Kathy Jaramillo, winner of the Smiles by Jiveh Holiday Smile Giveaway contest upon the completion of her sparkling new smile.
Since Jamarillo's journey to a new and healthier life took a bit longer than expected due to health problems, here is a quick recap (no pun intended) of how it began, and some of the life threatening stumbling blocks she had to overcome to get where she is today - in much better health and with a stunning new look.
Back in December 2004, Dr. Farokh Jiveh decided to give back to the community in the best way he knew how; by giving away a brand new smile to a deserving individual. "We received many entries for our Holiday Smile Giveaway, but Jamarillo really fit the bill," Dr. Jiveh said. "We were very impressed by the fact that she devoted much of her life to community service."
The mother of five children, Jamarillo is diabetic, and the chronic condition has put her at death's door more times than she would like to admit. In a way, winning the smile contest saved her life. "People don't realize that dental problems can have a strong affect on total health," Dr. Jiveh explained. "Kathy's teeth were in the worse shape possible, and an infection right before we were about to begin her transformation put her in the intensive-care unit for more than two weeks."
The tooth infection, coupled with the complications of diabetes, almost killed Jamarillo, but with the great care she received at Palms West Hospital and the dedication of her doctors, she made it through. Dr. Jiveh took care of the dental health aspect before he began the cosmetic process, and the result is really astounding.
Along with help from Michael Angelo, Heather and Francheska at Michael Angelo Salon & Spa, Jamarillo is a new woman in more ways than one. "Dr. Jiveh and his staff are the most fabulous people. They made me feel like part of their family, and they all took very good care of me and stuck by me through the ups and downs of the last year." Jamarillo said, "Not only do I love the way I look, but I feel great health-wise, and that is the most important thing for me. It is such a revelation not having to live in pain anymore. I am just tickled pink, and I want to thank my children Joseph and Melissa for entering me in the Holiday Smile Give away in the first place."
As for the kids, they are just thrilled to see their fashionable and healthier mom. "She was always embarrassed by her teeth and never smiled," Melissa said. "Now she has more confidence and her self-esteem has skyrocketed. That is the best thing. We love her however she is, but we want her to be happy and healthy. Thanks to Dr. Jiveh and his generous contribution, she is feeling on top of the world."
Dr. Jiveh, who often gives back to the community, said he could not be happier with the results. "Kathy is a very beautiful person inside; now she is on the outside, too," he said. "I wish her all the health and happiness in the world, she deserves it all."
Dr. Jiveh thanks the staff at Palms West Hospital, Dr. Andrew Slavin, DCC Dental Laboratory and Michael Angelo Salon & Spa for their contributions to the success of the Holiday Smile Giveaway contest.
