Beyond The Smile Artist (4/4)

Wellington The Magazine: In what way does charity interface with your work?

Dr. Jiveh: People like Bill Gates absolutely amaze me. He just gave several billion dollars to charity and different research companies to make our world a better place. There are countless people in the world who share their wealth and success. Bill Gates sets an example to be the best at what you do and motivate others to give back. My goal is to be the best at what I do in my field and be able to emulate Bill Gates at my level.

When I hire my staff, I tell them this is not just a job, but an opportunity to grow by sharing. Each holiday season we encourage the community to nominate a person who has done some sort of community service and is in need of dental work, and we provide them with a new smile. We receive so many letters and photos. Last year, our staff picked Rhonda. Her daughter nominated her for her community service during last year’s hurricane season. We provided her with 24 crowns and veneers, and she looks awesome! She gave all of us a framed poem.

Project Tara is another charitable project in which we are participating. We’re working with a group of people trying to change Tara’s life by having different doctors and other specialists bring health and beauty back to her after she lost a large amount of weight. My part is to bring her smile back to health and beauty. Her personality just shines. It’s such a pleasure to have her as a patient and be able give her the confidence from a healthy smile.

I am also a board member of the My Brother’s/Sister’s Keeper Charitable Trust, which raises money to help those in need here in the western communities. I believe the community service that we do brings our staff closer together as a team and makes our dental office atmosphere that much better.

Wellington The Magazine: In a nutshell quote, state your philosophy of life, of giving back, of industriousness, and your altruistic attitudes?

Dr. Jiveh: This quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. says it all for me: “An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”
